“Having all your retirement funds exposed in the market to stocks and bonds can be the biggest risk you can take in retirement. You need to have a plan that addresses both risk and, specifically, when and where your income in retirement is going to come from that doesn’t leave things fully exposed to market volatility.”
Jim and Jon both saw similar concerns for their friends and family in retirement until they decided to help them put a plan in place that would preserve their assets and provide them the income they needed in retirement.
Jim graduated from University of Arizona, where he studied accounting. He then joined the corporate world, joining the internationally renowned accounting firm KPMG. From there, he was quickly promoted to partner in charge of the tax department for the Phoenix office of KPMG where he spent 25 years. “I think 25 years of accounting is enough for enough for anybody,” Jim says as he transitioned to the “more fun” career of financial advisory in 1996 at UBS Financial Services. As a natural “people person” with a tax planning background, Jim immediately had success helping people plan for retirement. As the practice grew, Jim went on to hire his wife, Jan, with the goal of leaving nothing at risk for their clients.
Jim has residences in both Scottsdale, AZ and Pine, AZ. Jim and Jan have always enjoyed spending time outdoors and their hobbies include hiking, kayaking, and of course having breakfast or a beer at one of their favorite local joints in Pine. They also love to travel and some of their favorite places they’ve visited include Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Traverse City, Michigan, and San Diego, California. Jim also has a passion for ham radio and electronics, and one of his favorite hobbies is talking to people around the globe over amateur radio and collecting “QSL” contact cards.
In addition to being a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Jim is also non-practicing CPA. Jim has now been a personal financial advisor for over 26 years.
